East West Rail Information
As it currently stands, the route that East West Rail proposes to build between Bedford and Cambridge is the most expensive (around £8 billion) and environmentally damaging of the options considered. They went against advice from their own advisors to select this route which goes through greenbelt, open countryside, wildlife corridors, fertile farmland and close to many villages. The contours of this route are unnecessarily challenging, meaning a 10m embankment will be necessary along a lot of it’s path.
