Annual Parish Meeting – May

Annual Parish Meeting
The Annual Parish Meeting is a yearly event that provides an important opportunity for the community to come together. Legally, it is a separate body from the Parish Council, but in practice, the Council takes responsibility for organising it. The meeting is chaired by the Chair of Comberton Parish Council, or by the Vice-Chair if the Chair is unavailable.

While the meeting can include votes on local matters, these decisions are not binding on the Parish Council. However, any motions passed are taken into consideration at the next Council meeting.

What makes the Annual Parish Meeting unique is that all electors of the parish are welcome and encouraged to attend, speak, and vote—something not permitted during standard Council meetings unless otherwise invited. Held in April or May, the Annual Parish Meeting offers Comberton residents a chance to hear reports from the Parish Council and other village groups about their activities over the past year.  The minutes from this meeting typically include a summary of proceedings along with individual reports from each village organisation.

This meeting gives Comberton residents a chance to:

  • Hear updates from the Parish Council and local organisations
  • Review what’s been achieved over the past year
  • Raise questions or concerns
  • Share ideas and engage in discussions about village life

We will be holding our Annual Parish Meeting on Wednesday 14th May, at the Village Hall,  starting at 7:00pm.

EWR Ground Investigations

Please see below message, and attached poster from EWR:

“Dear Parish Council Representative,

I am writing to let you know that we have started the first phase of ground investigations for East West Rail (EWR) this month along the proposed route of the railway.

Ground investigations are vital for large infrastructure projects like EWR, gathering important information about the soil, rock and groundwater below the surface to help us to design a railway in a responsible and environmentally sustainable way. This information is also crucial to drawing up designs that reduce project costs, construction risks and the amount of land we need to use.

We are working closely with local landowners to make specific arrangements ahead of us carrying out ground investigations on their land. We are committed to treating landowners, their land, property and personal data with respect; making health and safety a priority; being clear and transparent with landowners; and keeping potential damage or disruption to their land to a minimum.

The ground investigations are expected to take place over several months. The duration of individual surveys varies depending on the type of ground investigation being carried out. I will be in touch again when our contractors are due to be in your area.

It’s unlikely that the ground investigations will cause any significant disturbance to nearby residents. We have measures in place to manage any potential disruption to communities, such as limiting working hours to 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and laying trackway into fields to try and avoid mud being brought onto the roads. The team will be adhering to robust health and safety procedures and will work hard to minimise any disruption to communities.”
